If hogfishes isn’t really your cup of tea, well, this one might change your opinion on the genus Bodianus. Hogfishes are lean, mean, chock full of energy and generally brazen with an attitude to match. Yet not quite. The very rare Bodianus masudai made it’s debut appearance in Singapore recently. The shell shocking red and yellow coloration is akin to a happy meal from McDonalds! But enough of that. If the gorgeous coloration isn’t breathtaking enough, check out the video of it posted by DigimanSG. bodianus masudai The elegant graceful swimming nature of the fish is a throwback to it’s boisterous counterparts. The masudai hogfish is one of the more difficult species to obtain. Generally only rarely available in Japan, this fine specimen made it’s way to Singapore where it was sold just shy of $800. The gorgeous coloration is best admired in a large sized individual like this. Juveniles are darker in coloration with black over much of the body. However the larger they grow, the more beautiful they become. That’s just assuming you manage to land your hands on one of these. Now imagine the Hawaiian endemic Bodianus sanguineus swimming next to this beauty. Ironically, DigimanSG did have a B. sanguineus once in one of his other videos, sadly, just not at the right time.
