If an alien were to land in my family room early on the right morning, he would make a few observations, sprint to his flying saucer, return to his home, and report that earthlings are nuts and the best course of action is to stay away.
What the alien would see that would generate this response is me, having just rolled out of bed, looking all disheveled, standing behind a black box on three legs connected to a long barrel-like object pointing at something in a glass box of water. The alien would barely be able to make out this scene because it would be very early in the morning and the only available light would be my small, shielded Maglite flashlight, also pointed at that something in the glass box of water.
The flashlight would give off just enough spill light to illuminate me, arms extended, each hand connected to the black box by a wire. The right is connected by a straight wire with a small end to it and a button that I occasionally push. The other arm is connected to the black box with a coiled wire and in that hand is another black object with a white translucent end on it. When the thumb of the right pushes the button, the object in the left hand explodes with a blast of light that would, undoubtedly, cause great visual distress to the alien, particularly in the dark conditions.
These light explosions would occur randomly, then would stop and the alien would observe me move the three-legged box, twist some ring on the barrel object. and adjust something on the black box itself. Once those adjustments were completed, the light explosions would resume.
If the alien stuck around, he would be able to observe this activity until sunlight began to enter the room. If he wasn’t already half way home, shaking his head, he would also see the result of these nighttime antics.–Gary L. Parr, www.gparr.com, www.reefthreads.com
