Two new Species of Encrusting Anemones (Neozoanthus sp.) has been discovered in a very unexpected ocean. Previously limited to Indian Ocean Water Neozoanthus sp. was thought to only exist in one particular location. However Associate Professor James Davis Reimer and his team located the same species off the coast of Southern Japan and on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.

Reimer was “very surprised in 2008 to discover Neozoanthus in the Pacific, in Japan,” but goes on to say: “These findings can be explained by the fact that there are very few zoanthid researchers in the world. These species are not particularly hard to find, but there was no one looking for them. This research demonstrates how little we know about marine biodiversity, even in regions relatively well researched.” Read more here!
