Louti (Variola louti)
One of the most active and aggressive groupers available. Unlike other groupers, which hide or sit waiting for food, the Louti Grouper will always be in front of the tank, making it a good show fish to have. They will actually move sand and rocks around, sometimes digging a hole in the sand. It changes from it juvenile colors, which are a red top and white bottom with a dark blue band running the length of its body, which fades away in time, leaving an all red fish with blue dots. Gets very large, about 2 – 3 feet, and needs a very large tank. Sometimes it is sold under the name Cherry grouper and doesn't have the blue band on it. This is another type of Variola grouper that when fully grown, looks similar to the Louti but not as large.
