Hello

I am building a 300 gallon tank. I have a 70 HD blueline pump. Does anyone know how much wattage i need for this tank? I have three different opinions from 3 local fish stores. One said a 57 watt would be needed for a reef, fish tank that is heavily stocked. The other said a 25 watt would be more than enough, and yet another said 35 to 40 watts.

Can someone help me figure this out? Also curious to know if anyone recommends a specific make and model.
Thanks

About 9w per 55 gallon

Hey Real,

I have always been under the impression that for every 50 gallons, you want about 9w for your UV. I have been using one called the Green Killing Machine for about 2 years now and I love it. It's a 9w that I use in my 55 gallon Coral/Fish tank. You should probably get something around the 57w or something along those lines.

I only have a plain Aquaclear 70 filter, with the Green Killing Machine and my tank looks great... I take a scraper to the glass maybe once every 3 months when it starts to build up a bit. No parasite outbreaks or anything...

Hope this helped.
