maxima clam, white organ coming out of mouth on class mantle

I've had this maxima clam for some time. It seems healthy and the clam mantle is fully extended. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

See if you can contact James W. Fatherree, he wrote a book on clams and he maybe able to help.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, as it does seem to happen and the clam is usually fine and lives for months afterwards.

I did skene. I saw that some one posted on another forum that it could be a "tongue" the only problem is everything I read on clams from trusted sources indicates clams don't have tongues. I was hoping. Someone could point me in the right direction like marron did.

A couple hundred years ago, experts said that the world was also flat.

ok let's get a bit more detailed.

Here in lies extension from mouth would be foot of the clam.

Ok. So i shouldn't be asking for information about the clams tongue. I'm guess it's not common for the clam to stick it's foot (not to confused with tongue)through the inlet of its mantle. Thanks for the information Skene.
