The salt I use does not have NSW levels of magnesium to start of with, so water changes will never fix the poblem. FWIR this is not uncommon - I think that magnesium is one of the more expensive ingredients (in total) which is why some (everyone?) skimps on it.
For about $50 USD I can get a small package delivered by UPS. Really they're saying "we don't want to do this, but if you twist our arm...".
I'd much rather buy in bulk from a local chemical house.

At the end of the planet (where I live) there are no "fishy" products available to do this. An exception is a Salifert product which I am sure is almost entirely water.
I'd like to buy some dry form chemical from a chemical supply house and mix my own additive.
