I am using a Medusa Dual Controller to run my chiller and heater. It works like a charm. However a month ago I noticed that a small out of the way stick on thermometer on my sump read a lower temperature(75) than the Medusa temp (79). I have since bought a couple other stick on and floating thermometers. I placed them all over my tank and sump. They all read around 4 degs lower than the Medusa, even when placed right next to the temp. probe.

Has anyone had problems with their Medusa reading? How can I tell what the correct temp. is?

Thanks

Jeff, you are absolutely right, stability is the key! My fish havent been stressed for the past 20 months due to the Medusa. It does a great job.

My concern is if the Medusa is truly 4 deg higher than it should be, my chiller could run less. Which would be great.

There is a way to re-calibrate the temp. in the instructions. Where can I get an acturate lab grade thermometer? Any one used any that they would suggest?

Thanks

Do you know anybody that works at a hospital lab or college lab? They may be able to let you borrow one for an afternoon so you can make your measurements. They are just a long yellow glass mercury thermometer that is calibrated. Otherwise you could trust your glass thermometers. If you have more than one showing the same temp then a safe bet is they are probably closer to the truth. Maybe even an oral thermometer for humans may work for ya. Not sure if they read that low though.

You could just adjust your controller up by a degree every several days until you get up to 3 to 5 degrees warmer to give your chiller and pocket book a break.

I agree its a good Idea just go slow. why make it work so hard if it does not have to.

I havent looked at the instructions lately but I think there is a way to calibrate the sensor reading. you could get a certified lab grade thermometer to test the tank and get it dialed in. Other wise you could adjust the temp with it and just remember that 83 degrees on your controller is really 79 etc...

I think stability is more important anyway and it does a great job at that.
