Well, sort of anyway...

My male maroon clown had been hanging out in the back of the tank for the past week or so, and my wife just called me downstairs. There's a big clutch of eggs on the back glass of the tank!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

We're so excited!!!!! This is our first batch of eggs with this pair. They weren't even a mated pair originally. I had the large clown and the small one in separate tanks up until about 7 months ago.

I'll try and get pics asap.

If anyone has info on how long the clutch will take to hatch, I'd appreciate it...

Thanks!

Congratulations!
The eggs will generally take about 8 days to hatch. Usually around 1/2 hour after the lights go out on the 8th night. I have found that with Maroons, the eggs do not all hatch at once, but rather over several hours and often times over two nights.
Many times the first batch is unfertilized as mom and pop are still trying to figure out the intracacies involved, but if you leave things alone in the tank, they will most likely begin the 2 week cycle of laying eggs.
Now raising them...that is a long story and is best told by Joyce Wilkerson. If you are serious about raising the babies, I highly recommend you get the book.

My eggs hatch on the 7th night. The fish usually lay them around 2pm in the afternoon. Guess that's when they are in the mood!

If you want to try catching some fry you can shut off your pumps at lights out, let the fry hatch, and attract them to the surface using a flashlight. Then you can cup them out.

Good luck and have fun!

Those divorce papers will be unique.

Reason for divorce:"My husband knocked up his fish".

Good luck with the kids.

My false perc's eggs usually hatch around the 7th day but sometimes there will be one or two left over that will hatch the 8th day. Like was said they usually hatch shortly after the lights go out. You can tell cause the fish kinda freak out and start fanning them wildly and cleaning out a little hole in front of where they laid them if its near the substrate. My clowns tend to wait a day or two after the eggs hatch before they spawn again and it's usually mid to late after noonish time. The first clutch they laid though did not fertilize correctly but with practice they are very good parents now. Good luck with your fry!

Pictures of the first egg clutch!!!!! :D

The eggs are a bit difficult to see because of the backing on the tank. I sprayed the outside of the back wall of the tank with that 'fleckstone' spraypaint...gives it a really snazzy textured look, but hides the eggs pretty well on photos. :-\
