Finally graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and it is time to start spending my graduation money on the tank of my dreams.

I am going to get a mag 1800 i think, with an undertank sump system. I know the pump should have some sort slowing device for feeding. Can a dimmer switch control the pump to slow down for the feeding, or is this not reccomended?

sound interesting. It can probably be done by limiting the electricity using a normal dimmer since it's a electromagnetic motor.

I don't think you can use a reostat (sp??) switch (dimmer) with an AC device. Your pump is probably a 60 hz AC device, right?

I'm not sure if you can use variable frequency drives to dim the AC motors on pumps (probably not recommended), but you can control AC devices using VFDs.

The pump would burn up in no time unless it is manufucatured to be controlled by a VFD, not a dimmer. A VFD would be very expensive. I'd go with a standard toggle switch to turn it on and off. IMHO
