Problems with a Whisper Powerfilter (Junior, I think)

I can't seem to get my whisper powerfilter (junior, small size, I can't remember, but it uses junior size cartriges) to start pumping water. It makes noise, and shakes a little when I move the intake up and down, but I can't get it to start pumping. I've had this problem before, and solved it only through blind luck. I can't seem to get it to work this time. Is there a trick to it? I'd appreciate any help whatsoever. Thank you very much.

You may need to prime the filter buy adding several cups of water to the filter. Also, the Whisper has an adjustable water flow on the top of the inlet tube. It may be turned. Lastly, the impeller may not be clean or positioned properly

Thank you. Do you mean that I need to pour several cups of water into the top of the filter? I've gotten really close by doing that, but I still can't get it to go. I've tried shooting water up the intake, and I think that the model I have doesn't have the little adjustment knob on the top. Is there anything else that I can do that you know of, or should I just keep trying with the water? Thanks again!

We had several of those single Whispers and 1 dual. All were similar and needed to be filled with water. Takes several cups and then it would start. All had the plastic knob on top of the intake which turned a small damper that would close off the water flow. Go ahead and fill it with water till it comes out the overflow. If it doesn't start then, most likely the impeller isn't in proper position.

I've just about given up on this particular filter, so I'm soaking and cleaning two of my backups, one of which has the knob that you described on the intake. I'm going to let them soak in vinegar for awhile to get the scuzz off, and then I'll rinse them, dry them and then try to get them working. If not, maybe I'll just take the intake from the old one, with the knob, and put it on the new one. (Any more ideas anyone?)Thanks again!
