my lfs just got some of these in and they looked very cool bright red body with black around the edges. has anybody kept these before? and what anemonie's do they like? i want to get some of them but i wanted to make sure i had a good host before i purchased them. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks! i finally found a link with some limited info. they look like the cinimon sort of just brighter. and it is suggested they get a bubble tip or a seabae anemone as a host which is heartyer? i have no personal expierience with anemonies i have friends who keep them but i hae not and any help here is appreciated.

I have kept the fire clown in quite a few species of anemone. I have tried bubbles, "ritteri", sebae, and LTA. The sebae and LTA seem to be their prefferred anemones, but they will go in everything.
Fire clowns are great and very beautiful, but they are on the aggressive side. They will be the only clowns in your tank.

I've never heard of Fire Clowns, can anyone post the latin name and/or photos?

BTW Will, an anemone host is not a requirement for keeping healthy & happy clowns. It is fun to have them together, if the tank is properly set up to care for anemones, but is more for the aquarist's benefit than the clown's.

Will,
According to Anemone Fish and Their Host Sea Anemones by Fautin & Allen. "Host anemone species: Usually Entacmaea quadricolor, Occasionally Heteractis crispa, Rarely Heteractis magnifica. Pictured are a pair that I hope will breed.

Maybe this picture is better. They won't sit still very long and my camera is slow on the trigger.

If it didnt have the head bar its an ephippium. There is a melanopus that doesnt have a head bar, but its really uncommon. Out of curiosity, whats the name of the store that has the clowns?

Will,
A.ephippium is also sometimes called Red Saddleback Anemonefish. Although beautiful, IME they are one of the more aggressive clown species I have seen. Good luck.

ok so we got it down to 2 or 3 species so knowing this which anemone is best? my lfs said they would order 4 LTA and 4 bubble tips and let me take the pic of the litter. knowing this i assume my lights are adaquate as know body said anything. but im worried about the big guy in the bottom pics. he likes to nibble on my poor choc chip star top pic and eat his tp spikes off but will he harm these anemonies? or will they harm him??
