Anyone know anything about the Naso vlamingii? Any experiences with them?

Sorry, I don't know a common name, if there is one. I've never seen one before today. The LFS store had two obviously young ones as they were only 3-4". Neat little fish, but I'd like to know a bit more about them before I consider one. Being in the Naso genus, I'm sure they get large, but that's all that I'm sure of.

VERY large. How big is your tank?

A gorgeous fish, but they need a HUGE tank.

Peace,

Chip

The tank is 72" x 24" x 30" tall, FOWLR, but I'm not sure that even that would be enough tank for a fish like this.

Too bad. These guys are really cool. They seem like the kind of fish that you could train to eat right out of your hand. Lots of personality (in so much as fish can have personalities). :)

Laura trust me, these vlamingi's get huge. IMO a minimum tank might be around 600 gallons for these tangs.
They grow so quickly it is amazing.

This is why it pays to ask first, buy later. I'd have to build another room onto the house to accomodate a tank of that size. I'll have to pass on one of these little beauties. :(

Not only do they get huge, but the juvenille is pretty ugly, very different than the adult photos you have seen. I had a chance to get one and I passed, and I've got a 8' long 330 gallon tank.
