right on..i cant find any southdown here...so i just threw in 100 lbs of silica sand and then im ganna mix in some live sand when i get the water in...shouldnt be any problems???
i know of at least one reefer that has kept silica sand successfully in a reef tank. there has been debate about it possibly causing high silicate levels but i don't believe there is any concrete evidence proving that.
It should be fine but I prefer aragonite. Silica is harder and more jagged and therefor it is more likely to cause scratches. Not to mention that it might not be the ideal media for critters to crawl through. But what the hay, plenty of others have used it.
