xenia question

I have a bunch of rock with white pom pom pulsing xenia. If I put those piece of rock in my sump, to kill the xenia, will that toxify my tank? I have to get rid of this stuff, im sick of it overtaking everything. thanks

I don't think you would want anything rotting in your tank. You could scrape as much off as possible and then put it in your sump. But, I would see about trading the rock with other reefers or selling it to the LFS.

There's ALWAYS someone who wants some Xenia! Heck advertise it here for free if the person that wants it pays the shipping. You'll be out of Xenia before you know what's going on.

Dead Xenia will make your Iodine to go thru the roof, and kill everything in your tank!

Just pull off as much as you can and flush it. Don't let it die in your tank. Xenia crash have being known to crash a tank. This is the reason I never have a huge stand of Xenia in my tank. I only have a small to midium colony. If it crash, it won't kill my tank.

Seriously though, is it just growing to fast for you is all? You could def sell frags of it locally for like 10 bucks a pop or trades.

Do you have the scientific name for the pom pom? I could't find alot of info online under pom pom Xenia...

Even one person can saturated the local market very fast. That is the problem. I trade them to my LFS for 10 dollars credit each frag, but they can only sell so much.

Some pompom Xenia are mislabled. But one possible name is Xenia umbella or something like that.... HTH
