Good Lord! Use the following system:

Make two boards (decorative or not) out of oak and about 6x12in. by about 3/4 in thick. Do NOT use pine, use a HardWood

Make four holes about an inch in from each side of each corner and countersink them just a tad.

Put the boards up on the ceiling directly over where you want to suppport the canopy.

Use a sharp pencil to put in the holes in the board and transfer them to the ceiling.

Use the appropriate bit for your favorite heavy duty dry wall anchor (Follow the directions on the package and get the anchors that are rated about 1/2 the weight of your canopy) and drill at all of the marked points for both boards. (8 holes in the ceiling!)

Drill a hole in the dead center of both boards about 3-5/32nds smaller than a #8 Eye bolt. Sorry I forget what size this is exactly.

Screw two eye-bolts into the boards in the center hole you just made. If it doesn't go in really hard, I told you the wrong size of hole and you either have to start over or get a number 6 (eek!) eyebolt

Use the anchors (4 for each board) and screw the boards into the ceiling (After finishing them to match your decor if you wish) Now you have a super strong mount to use for pulleys/chains for your canopy.

Here is a picture of my setup so you can decide what to do. My canopy is less than 40lbs and I can adjust it for new bulbs, get it out of the way for cleanings, etc so easy it is stupid. Use S-hooks to link to the chains. The hooks in my setup (the picture) should be substituted for Eye screws/bolts (a closed circle) since your canopy is so much heavier than mine.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Using cknowlto's ceiling mount put a pully on the end and use some marine grade boat rope and there you go. You will have a very funktional, but not so pretty pully system. If you want to get crazy with it knock holes in the ceiling, put a couple motors up there and use cable and you could have it powered too. There are some design issues with pullys, placement, size, ect ect that I don't know, except if it isn't right, it wont work.

i would like to know more about the $10 ro system. does the home depot still carry it? if they do can i have a model number, or something.

even though it really was fifty i have spent that so far this month alone going to and from my source for proper ro water.
($0.50 per gallon isn't bad, it's the $13 cab ride home that kills me)

any info would be great!
