Electronic Icecap ballast for HQI bulbs?

Hey, I have a friend with an icecap ballast that wanted to use it for an HQI bulb. He said that it didn't work... is there something that needs to be done? Some settings?

How old is the ballast?

I think it's new - until a few month ago he only had fluorescents...
Does it matter?

The old IC electronic halide ballasts had to be "tuned" to certain lamps.

The modern ones fire just about anything in the correct wattage. IIRC there was one DE lamp they might have been having problems with but I can't think of it now...

You need to send it back to Icecap IIRC. The new ICs supposedly fire up almost every MH bulb out there. Maybe your friend should send it back to service regardless or do a swap with the vendor he purchased from.
