manny,

Here is the link to the split thread, in big fonts for everyone to see:
http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=38521

Don't ever say I made an attempt to resign your critical comments to a less-read forum. ;) I moved it simply because its content belonged in that forum and its ensuing discussion should not muddy up the focus of this thread.

Wow,

I can't believe this post got so many looks and replies.

danmhippo - thanks for the encouragement. I do not plan on letting you down. Of course, going to this board gives me a lot of great advice and I have found that makes the hobby much easier. We do not have to constantly reinvent the wheel, we can learn from each others experiences, both good and bad.

zoo - you were absolutely right when you found one of my old posts. The purple tank got his *ss kicked. Of course, he was added to the tank with the already established hippo. My idea with the 135 is that it is new terrain for all involved - the hippo, the purple tang, the tomato clown and the royal gramma. They will have to establish a new pecking order.

Someone recommended that I add the kole first and let him get set up. He is the smallest, after the gramma anyway, and proably the least aggressive. Then add the others. I think that is the way I will go. Of course, I am always open to suggestions.

john what you are failing to realize is when you add a a 13 year old hippo and 3 year old purple to a 135 with a tiny kole it does not matter how long the kole has been there. it does not matter how comfortable the kole feels. it does not matter how established the kole is. it does not matter how much area the kole wants. these all become moot point to the hippo and the purple. these fish will do and take whatever they want and the tiny kole has no say whats o ever

and I am not even mentioning the fact that this tank will be cramped within a year if it is not already so

and another variable is the tomatoe. these fish become mean and aggressive with age and size as well

len-methinks that zoofarmer tends to phrase too many personal opinions as absolutes/absolute predictions

i don't think that's very constructive, either, for anyone-especially with the continued tone of how he phrases

there are (at least) 37 different ways to skin a cat

just my $0.02

I agree with your opinion completely, vitz. Mocking Zoofarmer, however, doesn't do anything to fix the problem. Rather, it compounds it.

LEN,

my apology,

i understand that, but every time he posts he inflames a lot of people, not one or two a lot! zoo is still trying to get the last stab in by kicking the dead horse. all i ask is for zoo to put some polish on his words. just shine them up a bit. thats all everyone wants.

point taken :)

yet...

how to reason w/such a person? :?

if any other opinion offered, educated or not, will always be answered w/condescention and arrogant tonal answer..... :x

i do think that thezoofarmer is kinda showing everyone what his opinion is worth, without any help from me-hehe....

but the question i still have, is(and forgive me if this ain't exactly the place to ask) how do you deal w/the proverbial fly, when honey only seems to encourage it's annoying behavior? :? :?:

wow I post the obvious and people start crying?????????

what is up with that???????????

well maybe some of the cryers can tell me what they think the requirements would be to keep a 13 year old hippo tang?

what are the requirements to keep a 3 year old purple tang?

is it more or less then 135 gallons combined?

well being that almost every reference material states at least 75 gallons per tang (for an AVERAGE SIZED TANG) not to mention I am sure the hippo is very large, it looks to me we are short about 15 gallons

so lets add a baby kole!!!!!!!!!!!

then we have the aggressive tomatoe, which in all honsety can keep each and every tang from her corner of the tank. Now that leads less room in the already cramped tank for the 3 tangs. But hey, the kole was in their first and has established himself, I am sure he can protect himself.

so dont agree with me, I do not care, just post it and stop crying

so when this person listens to this horrible advice and the kole dies maybe he will better choose who he gets advice from next time

len, jim, sea maiden

do you put these 3 tangs in the tank together? a simple yes or no will suffice

and what happened to dizzy??????????????????
dizzy I asked some simple questions but let me repost them for you.

Dizzy you speak of a ton of tangs and a ton of tanks yet you do not put 3 tangs together until you get to a 300 gallon size tank. Why is this?

Do you add a 13 year old hippo, a 2 year old purple, and a tiny kole to a 135? A simple yes or no will do.

Or how about this question dizzy, of all of your display tanks with 2 tangs, how many of them would you throw a baby kole in?

I'm closing this thread because it's digressed and become too hostile. If there is any open questions or discussions you'd like to discuss, feel free to start a new thread. Thanks.
